Noah’s Ark
The Noah’s Ark theme for children is still going strong and I think it will continue to be popular. If you think about it, the story is full of things children find captivating. There’s the building of a big boat. Then, there are animals (a pair of every kind!) Then, a massive rainfall that covers even the tallest mountain. And finally, a rainbow – the symbol of hope and a new beginning. Come to think of it – I enjoy it too. It is one of my most requested themes for wall art and stools. This pair was made for 2 little ones who are about to be baptized. It’s nice to see the story of Noah getting passed on yet again.

Liana’s Owl
Here is my latest stool design. I had free reign to design an original stool for a brand new baby named Liana. I’ve always wanted to do a cute owl and I finally got to! I think I’ll name her Eleanor – don’t know why – I just like it. From what I hear Liana’s Mommy really likes Eleanor too.

Crocodile Crazy
Anyone who has a business that caters to children knows that the last to receive any kind of perks from your efforts are your actual children. I’ve painted a few things for my kids but they were before I started my business. My daughter’s been asking for a Princess Crown Plaque forever! I keep saying ,”soon…soon” but I haven’t got around to it yet. The thing is - I’m always painting for customers that when I do get a break that’s exactly what I want – a break.
I did this Crocodile for a little boy but when my son, Nate, saw it he loved it! He was carrying it all over the house. He even took it to his room and showed me where on the wall he would like to have it hung. I lamely tried to explain to my 2 year old that it was for another little boy and that I would make him one “after”. As I was listening to myself say this I realized that I could make another one. You tend to think in dollar signs when you have a business when really what my son was doing was the reason I paint. He was so delighted – I couldn’t take that away from him in that moment.
So, now it’s Nate’s Crocodile and it seems right – like it was meant to be. It was a sweet reminder that my children are my biggest fans. I better get to work on that plaque.

Spring is in the Air – maybe.
Ugggh. Snow in April in Toronto has got to be the dreariest thing ever! I think I actually saw hail too. So, to brighten the day I thought I’d post some really “Springy” cheerful paintings that I’ve done recently. I hope they make you smile!

An Elephant for Charlotte
Here is a recent painting I did for a wonderful friend’s daughter. Charlotte is her name and she is one year old. She needed a little something to brighten her room so I was happy to oblige. I’ve fondly called this elephant Eunice because I know Charlotte’s mother would probably appreciate that name.

Tablet Art
Well, I finally used my Bamboo tablet! I’m still getting used to it and I still have a ways to go but it was fun! It takes just as long as doing an actual painting the only difference is there’s no mess! I also discovered that an electronic eraser is much more convenient than trying to wipe away a mistake with a wet cloth! There’s lots of fun effects to play with and I’d say you’re only limited by your imagination. In my case, I think I’m limited to my lack of technical skills but that’ll come the more I play with it – I hope. Here are my first pieces with the Bamboo.

Children’s Art Party – Toronto
My friend Grace asked me to do an Art Party for her son’s Birthday Party and even though I haven’t done one before (but always thought about it) I decided to take the plunge and do it. It was a good time all around and went very smoothly. The kids were super-receptive and loved the creative freedom. Parents were delighted to have an original piece by their child and were pleasantly surprised at how the masterpieces turned out. Below is an overview of the party. If anyone is interested in having a party like this for your little one please feel free to contact me for details.

Everybody Loves Elephants!
Here’s a painting that will adorn a brand new baby’s nursery. I love doing custom pieces! I had this one planned in my head. Meet Ellie, Edward and their new baby, Eddie Jr. What a happy family!

Cassettes are cool!
While cassette tapes are long gone the image of them brings on a certain nostalgic feeling for me. Trying to tape the Top 6 at 6 in the most seemless way possible…Without any commercials and without cutting off the end or beginning of songs. Then listening to those songs - rewinding and fast-fowarding to my heart’s content…Who am I kidding? It sucked doing that but the image of the actual cassette tape is way cool. My friend, Stephanie made this cute tunic/dress for my daughter out of an old vintage T and she loves it! The ribbon is her absolute favourite. If you want one like it feel free to email Stephanie at stephanie@blushpretty.com.
