Happy Earth Day 2010!

In honour of Earth Day I’m posting my “Environmentally Friendly” step stool. This was actually a request from a mom whose son was really into recycling. Wow, times have changed. When I was young recycling was a non-existent concept. Caring for the earth wasn’t even a concern and that’s precisely what lead us to the condition that our planet is in today. It’s nice to see that we are slowly but surely making steps to redeem ourselves and the earth. Upcoming generations are going to be saturated with information on caring for the earth, keeping pollution down, going green, replanting trees, recycling etc. and this is a great thing (there are worse things they can be saturated with). My kids are constantly telling me what should be recycled, my daughter turns off the tap and tells me that I’m being wasteful, and they wouldn’t dare litter. It’s not that I’ve harped on them to do these things (obviously, if they’re telling me) it’s just the way they think now. It’s a positive testimony that the media, our own communities, and a few affirming words from parents promotes these ideals and it’s working! Happy Earth Day everyone! Keep up the good work!

Happy Earth Day!

Children’s Art Party – Toronto

My friend Grace asked me to do an Art Party for her son’s Birthday Party and even though I haven’t done one before (but always thought about it) I decided to take the plunge and do it. It was a good time all around and went very smoothly. The kids were super-receptive and loved the creative freedom. Parents were delighted to have an original piece by their child and were pleasantly surprised at how the masterpieces turned out. Below is an overview of the party. If anyone is interested in having a party like this for your little one please feel free to contact me for details.

The Mom Show – TV Appearance

A friend of mine saw The Mom Show (SLICE network) the other day and it was the episode that I did last year. They re-aired it! It was a segment on Mompreneurs that I was very happy to be a part of. My business was just starting out and I was pretty nervous. I felt like I was just babbling and couldn’t remember a thing I said – it was such a blur. My daughter, Hannah, ended up being a model for Thirstywear which was the business of the other Mompreneur they interviewed that day. She was nervous too but she did it and I was so proud of her!

It looked like such a nice set when you watch it on TV but in reality it’s in this warehouse-type space where everything around the set looks like someone’s garage. It went very quick. It’s all such an illusion but it was a great experience and it showcased my artwork which was great. Here’s a few screencaps from the episode…

Childrens Trunk Show 2009

I just completed the Childrens Trunk Show last weekend. It was held in the Distillery District located in downtown Toronto. I got a chance to showcase my artwork and received a ton of positive feedback. Attendance was down this year – they think due to the H1n1 scare. All in all, it’s  a great show to be associated with. Saw a bunch of stylish mommies with their Coach bags or the Roots leather messenger bag (totally made me want one) And I have to talk about the strollers – they were awesome! I bet some of them would take off and fly if you just flipped a switch. My umbrella stroller from Walmart is soooo embarassing! The children were stylin’ too with their wool fedoras and leather shoes – so adorable. It’s the type of show where there is so much sweet stuff that moms couldn’t help saying “Awwww”. You just had to leave with something that said that you’d been there.

Happy Father’s Day!

God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle’s flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so,

He called it … Dad

Happy Father’s Day to my hubby and to all the Father’s out there! Have a wonderful day!

Nate Wizzle’s New Haircut

I mentioned earlier I have 3 kids -2 girls and a little boy. Hannah who is 7 (aka Hannie) Jessie who is 4 (aka Jessie-bear) and Nathan who is 2 (aka Natey or Nate Wizzle) The other day I took Natey to get his first “cool” haircut at a salon. He was great! He wimpered a little but it helped that he was on my lap and the hair stylist was super-fast. I must admit this Faux Hawk is Tres Cute!

Welcome to my Blog!

Hi everyone!

Wow! My first post – I’m so excited!

If you learn one thing about me it’s that I love everything that results in expressing creativity. I’m jealous of people who can sew or crochet. I want to scrapbook and decoupage. I want to create jewelry and cool beaded things. I wish I could blow glass and do pottery.  I find scrapbook paper and beautiful fabrics so yummy and enticing. It calls my name to do something with it but what? I admire pretty ribbon and cool yarn. I wish I could make my own vinyl decals and design my own invitations and greeting cards. I want to write and illustrate my own childrens book -

the list goes on and on…

Unfortunately, there’s not a bunch of time with 3 kids so I concentrate on my painting which I also love.  Here’s an example of some of my stools. For Will who loves animals and all things that go vroom!vroom! For Rachel who loves animals and more animals and for Alexandra who is the perfect little princess.
