We Love Animals!!
Why are children so fascinated with animals? My children have always been enchanted by them. Even today when my husband and I see a squirrel in our backyard we yell out “SQUIRREL!!” and they come runnin’ to see. Animals are simple and complicated at the same time and learning about them never stops. They are mysterious and truly amazing in their abilities and their appearances which are often comical but always created with purpose. Most children’s books feature animals, the songs we sing our kids (Ole’ McDonald had a farm…) tell about animals, their beds are covered in stuffed animals, they want to draw animals and even the plastic animals that come in buckets are a favourite toy. Most requests I get for custom paintings are for animals with fairies coming in a close second and I love doing them. Children and animals just seem to go together.
A great site for you and your kids to learn interesting facts and see small video clips on a wide variety of animals is www.kids.nationalgeographic.com

Cute Monsters
I’m all for being creative and I am a big fan of innovative ideas – especially when geared towards children. I came across this great website that lets you create your own cute stuffed monster www.curlyqcuties.com I even had fun trying out the different combinations of “monster”. Cylops or tri-eyes? Buck teeth or shark-like fangs? Star or heart? Fat or skinny? Blue or pink? Scary or sweet? So many choices made me giddy! I know my children would have begged to make their own if they weren’t fast asleep when I made this discovery. Children thoroughly enjoy being part of the creative process so this wouldn’t be just another stuffed animal this would be a tangible end product of their amazing imaginations. They can even opt to put their initial on their monster which I thought was terrific! Maybe after your children create a monster of their very own the one under their bed or in their closet won’t seem so scary.
